Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is the role of a Credentialled Diabetes Educator (CDE)?
A CDE is a healthcare professional with advanced specialised post-graduate qualifications in diabetes management. Rather than just giving medical instructions, they partner with you to help you understand your condition, master your equipment, tailor your nutrition, and solve day-to-day challenges like travel, exercise, and illness.
Can a diabetes educator help me set up a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM)?
Yes. Wendy can assist with sensor application, smartphone app pairing, alarm configuration, and interpreting trend arrows. For eligible patients with Type 1 diabetes, she can also assist in completing the paperwork required to access fully subsidised CGM sensors through the NDSS.
Can I get a free blood glucose monitor at the clinic?
Yes. During your consultation, we can provide you with an NDSS-compatible glucometer, along with initial test strips, lancets, and comprehensive training on how and when to check your levels.
How often should I see a diabetes educator?
This depends on your personal health plan. Newly diagnosed patients or those changing medications/starting insulin often attend regular follow-ups over several weeks. Once blood glucose levels stabilise, an annual or bi-annual review is typical to track progress, review HbA1c trends, and refresh self-management strategies.
