IUD Insertion
At Parkmore Medical Centre, we are delighted to extend our services to include intrauterine devices (IUD) insertion with Dr. Jacqui Barry.
An intrauterine device (IUD) is a small contraceptive device that is put into the uterus (womb) to prevent pregnancy. The 2 types available in Australia are the:
- copper IUD (also called the non-hormonal copper IUD)
- hormonal IUD
The procedure usually takes about 15 minutes, but you’ll be in the clinic for approximately 45 minutes.
Dr. Barry will examine your vagina to check the size and position of your womb. She will then insert a speculum (the same instrument used for a smear test) into your vagina, then a local anaesthetic will be applied.
Dr. Barry will place the IUD inside your womb. She will cut the strings used to remove the IUD, leaving about 3 centimetres of the strings deep inside your vagina.
We look forward to assisting you on your journey to improved health and well-being.
